FFE Eco-Speaker Maggie McCoy of the Missouri Botanical Garden

Missouri Botanical Garden Climate Change Education Coordinator to present “Watershed Wonders” Nov 12 in Kirkwood

Join the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and those in the Franciscans For Earth (FFE) movement as we welcome Maggie McCoy to Tau Center in Kirkwood the evening of Thursday, November 12. From 6:30 to 8pm Central, she will take us on a “behind the scenes” tour into how water moves through St Louis. Register today to join us!

Maggie will present her talk entitled Watershed Wonders. She will teach how to find your “water address,” so you can learn where water travels once it goes down the sink or the storm drain. We will discuss how natural systems manage water, the impact of climate change on those water systems, and how we can use green infrastructure to mimic nature at our homes, businesses, and in the community.

Maggie McCoy is the Climate Change Education Coordinator at Missouri Botanical Garden. She works closely with science and conservation specialists at the Garden to translate research done on climate change to students and teachers. She also provides programs to K-12 students and teachers on the topics of waste reduction, stormwater management, and energy efficiency. Maggie has also worked at both the St Louis Zoo and the Endangered Wolf Center. She has an extensive history in conservation, education, and sustainability education. She loves being able to connect people to information and skills that will help them make more sustainable choices.

Registration is necessary:

Scroll down to register to join us. You will receive an email response that contains information on how to get to Tau Center, and where to enter the building. We will attempt to email reminders to registrants one day and one hour before the event that will also contain the location information, but they seem to be inconsistent in delivery. Parking is free and surrounds the building. Tau Center is an accessible facility–2 special parking spots and a zero-entry door are in the Southwest corner of the building, but the door is locked. If needed, please call ahead when a receptionist is available to take your call, (Mon-Thur, 8am to 3:30pm), to make arrangements to be let in.
