Our dear Sister Loraine went to her rest in the arms of our loving God on August 19. Coming to us from Dayton, Ohio, Sister Loraine entered the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1950 and professed perpetual vows in 1955.
She received her BA from Mary Manse College in Toledo, and taught in the St. Louis Archdiocese at Holy Ghost School in Berkeley and St. Pius X in Glasgow Village. She ministered as accountant and controller at St. Francis Oak Ridge Hospital in Green Springs, Ohio, for 21 years until being appointed Treasurer General of the congregation, a ministry she served for 11 years. Later, she lived the mission through volunteer work at Villa St. Joseph Child Care Center, The Franciscan Connection and Our Lady of the Pillar School library.
A wake and Mass of Resurrection was held in the Lally Room on the Carberry Campus in St Louis, and she was buried on August 29th at the St. Louis Chapel in Resurrection Cemetery.
Sister Loraine asked to be remembered in the following way: “I am most deeply grateful to a loving and merciful God who walks hand in hand with each of us in our life’s journey and blesses us in countless ways. In particular I treasure the gift of faith, the sacraments, a loving family, dear friends and relatives and the precious vocation to be a Franciscan Sister of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.”
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help are appreciated.
