Obituary – Sr. Miriam Sitarz OSF
Sister Miriam, 100, a sister for 84 years, died June 3, 2017 at Mary, Queen and Mother Center in St. Louis.
Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois in 1917, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1930 and professed perpetual vows in 1938. She received her BA from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois and her MA from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.
Sister Miriam taught in St. Louis, Pulaskifield, DeSoto, Portage Des Sioux and Sullivan, MO, Todd’s Mill, Nashville and Chicago Ridge,IL, Kansas City, KS, Ruston and West Monroe, LA, Trinidad, CO, Fairborn, OH, Omaha, NE, Weirton, Westover, Mannington and Proctor, West Virginia. She was principal in a number of her assignments and as an accomplished musician, she was organist wherever she was assigned.
Sister Miriam is preceded in death by her parents Julianna (Kupczyk) and Michael Sitarz and by her siblings: Mary Sypien, Helen Nowak, Catherine Nosal, Sr. Mary Bonaventure OSF, Anna Folta, Anthony and Boleslaus Sitarz.
A wake will be held at 4pm June 12, 2017 at the Lally Room on the Carberry Campus 7601 Watson Road, St. Louis, MO followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 5pm.
Burial at 9am, June 13th at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help are appreciated.
