The heavens are telling…

God is always with us. When the troubles of this world seem so very heavy, I, like many, look to God’s Creation for assurance, to find refuge and to seek balance.

“The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.” — Psalm 19

How many times have I reveled in the beauty of a sunset or sunrise, marveled at the colors of spring’s burgeoning flowers, wondered at autumn’s palette throughout the hills, praised God because of this wonderful Creation? Many times, and yet not enough.

How many times have I walked the hills, wandered the woodlands, dallied along the streams and praised God? Many times, and yet not enough.

The psalms abound with God being praised through and by Creation.

Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; make His praise glorious! All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.” — Psalm 66

God created all and called it good. How can we and all Creation not give praise to God by caring for his gifts?

“Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.”  — Psalm 148

St. Francis of Assisi “communed with all creation, even preaching to the flowers, inviting them ‘to praise the Lord, just as if they were endowed with reason.’” Laudato Si’ #11

St. Francis saw God manifested in all things and in all people. He invites us to see nature as a magnificent book in which God speaks to us and grants us a glimpse of his infinite beauty and goodness. “Through the greatness and the beauty of creatures one comes to know by analogy their Maker.”  — Laudato Si’ #12

Let’s take the time today to really look and see God in the beauty of Creation around us – to let it refresh our souls, if even for a moment. Let it inspire you to express the beauty in word, song, dance or in action. Be blessed as you discover God’s beauty surrounding you!

Waiting for grace spilled.
